According to BabyCenter, Evelyn is a name of Irish origin, and it was traditionally used as an English surname. It means “wished-for child.”
It used to be a boy’s name, but now it is mostly recognized as a name for a girl.
The name Evelyn is made up of two separate names; Lynn and Eve, which is the Hebrew for “life” or “living” and synonymous with the first woman (Adam & Eve).
Although the name Evelyn was not often used for many years, it started to regain popularity and ranked at number 13 on 2019’s popularity list.
Some famous Evelyn’s are American aviator Evelyn Sharp and actress Evelyn Keyes.
