The importance of picking a good middle name for your daughter

There’s no law that says you have to give your child a middle name. It’s purely a matter of personal preference.

Of course, most people today bestow a middle name on their child, so it would be considered unusual to not have one. So, you probably have decided to include a middle name in your child’s moniker.

That’s a good choice because that extra name between your first and last can have a lot of benefits!

Here are 3 big reasons you should think and research carefully about a good middle name that goes well with Harper:

A middle name lets you preserve even more family or other important names

Let’s say you have a close friend that means the world to you, and you think you can show her just how much you appreciate her by naming your daughter after her.

The only thing is, your sister means a lot to you, too. How are you going to decide?

Well, with a middle name, you can honor both!

All you need to do is to make sure that the names flow together nicely!

Their middle name can, and might, become their nickname

Kids love nicknames. It’s almost like a rite of passage.

If a kid has a nickname, she feels super important. Many times, the nickname that your child ends up with will stem from her middle name.

Many people even choose to go by their middle names all of the time; perhaps they feel they have more control over their lives by controlling what people call them.

A middle name also comes in handy if your child shares her first name with someone else that she spends a lot of time with because now there’s an easy way to distinguish between the two name sharers.

Since your child might end up opting to use her middle name full-time, or because her middle name might morph into her nickname, stay away from names that could be embarrassing!

The full name power play

You’ve probably been on the receiving end of the full-name warning a few times in your lifetime, you know the one, “HARPER BREE WILLIAMS, GET OFF OF THE CAR ROOF!!”

Every child knows that when mom plays the FULL NAME card, it means BIG trouble.

This is because, when done well, the full name warning is very effective. It just needs to be delivered smoothly, so try out your middle name options using the full name warning before making any final decision.
